KaOS is an independent distribution that features most recent version of KDE desktop environment. This project was inspired by Arch Linux but developers built their own package which are available via their repositories ‘Core’, ‘Main’, ‘Apps’ ‘Build’. KaOS uses rolling-release model and only available for 64bit architecture, so sorry to 32bit old machines. The apps it carries are Calligra office suite, Konqueror & Qupzilla Web browsers, Inkscape, Krita, Panorama, Clementine, K3b, SMPlayer, and many other popular applications. KaOS has made the choice to use the Linux kernel as a base (though the Illumos kernel is under constant evaluation, and a future switch is a wish). After that choice, the best available package manager, most flexible way of package building, repository maintenance is pacman/makepkg for a rolling distro like KaOS.
