Feren OS 2025.03 VM Images Available for VirtualBox and VMware

Feren OS project announced the updated version of Feren OS 2025.03 features Cinnamon desktop environment. “Feren OS 2025.03 was finalised on March 31st and was released to existing Feren OS users at 4 AM on April 1st (it was delayed by a test failing due to a first-ever race condition which never occurred again since). Feren OS finally uses an Ubuntu 22.04 LTS base in this release, bringing with it a whole slew of improvements and software updates, making the Feren OS experience even better than before. Previous versions of Feren OS were based on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and with this rebase comes support until the end of April 2027. Fortunately, with the release of 2025.03, Feren OS’s entire underlying structure was revisited — gone are the use of any upstream metapackages, made to forge their platforms, gone are an abundance of unnecessary software ‘recommendations’ by software Feren OS pre-installs, and gone are the aforementioned unnecessary dependencies. Feren OS now uses KDE Plasma 5.27, which coincidentally marks the end of the KDE Plasma 5 family, providing tons of new features and important bug fixes.
